What it Means
We know our path to being a leading sustainable business starts with us and being able to provide an example to our suppliers and customers. Our actions must start locally, and we are driven to ensure a positive impact across our operational sites, and minimise our footprint as much as possible. This involves the responsible consumption of local natural resources, and the management of offsite emissions from our factories - such as waste, water quality, GHG emissions, noise and odour to minimise the impact on local environments and communities. Our ambition is for local communities to be proud to have our factories in their neighbourhood.
What We’ve Achieved
Our environmental management system (EMS) (aligned to ISO 14001) provides clear expectations and targets for our own operations to address their significant environmental aspects and impacts. In 2020, the EMS was supported by an Environment Champion training program designed to build capability to improve environmental performance across all our operations. Month on month, we track our environmental indicators and have a strict incident management system to enable prompt action for any incidents that occur to ensure they are mitigated in the future.
What’s Next
We will continue to drive resource efficiency targets and embed environmental performance indicators across all our sites. In 2021 we will be reviewing our capital expenditure process to ensure we maximise the operational improvements achieved through these investments.
