Reduce Hunger

What it Means

At Goodman Fielder, our purpose is Making everyday food better for everyone. At the heart of our purpose is ensuring our great tasting, nutritional products are affordable, accessible and sustainable. We recognise food insecurity is a growing challenge globally and we are excited about the role we can play in tackling this issue. Addressing food insecurity is also fundamental to the theory of change that underpins our social impact framework. Solving hunger is a critical step in lifting people out of poverty.
In 2019, 15% of Australians experiencing food insecurity were seeking food relief at least once a week. In 2020, this has doubled to 31%*. We know our product donations have an immediate and significant positive impact for individuals and families in all our markets. Our approach recognises that these food donations are only part of the role we can play in bringing our communities out of food insecurity.

What We’ve Achieved

We donate more than 1.2 million meals each year through partnerships with Foodbank and Eat Up in Australia. In New Zealand we donated 150,000 loaves of bread to hunger relief organisations like Auckland Mission and Salvation Army. Our community programs in Fiji provide cash and product donations to support underprivileged groups in the community.

What’s Next

We are building hunger relief considerations into the heart of our food waste reduction strategy including redesigning key business processes (such as new product development and factory trials) to optimise food donations. We are also investigating how we can strengthen our hunger relief and food donation partnerships and programmes to maximise the impact for those in need.
