Edmonds is one of New Zealand’s oldest and best loved brands, one that is synonymous with kiwi home cooking and baking. It was founded in 1879 by Thomas Edmonds when he opened up a small grocery store and began making baking powder out the back of his shop. A customer questioned the superiority of his baking powder and Edmonds replied “It is sure to rise Madam” and the famous Edmonds promise was born.
For over 135 years, Edmonds has been trusted by generations of New Zealand bakers and cooks to deliver trusted and loved recipes and quality products and ingredients.
Today the Edmonds product range has grown to include more than 60 products with a range of Baking Ingredients, Flour, Raising Agents, Yeasts, Baking Mixes, Bread Mixes, Cake Mixes, Pancake Mixes, Desserts, Frozen Pastry, Salad Dressings and Mayonnaises.
The brand is also famous for the Edmonds Cookery Book which was first published in 1908. It contained 50 pages of ‘economical everyday recipes and cooking hints’ with recipes that used the Edmonds Baking Powder, some of which still appear today. This Cookery Book has became a Kiwi institution and remains the first point of reference for Kiwi cooking and baking. It is the biggest selling book ever published in NZ with over 4 million copies sold.
